Care Instructions
At Pupmiette, we carefully select clothing for small and medium-sized dogs with comfort, everyday wear, and seasonal use in mind. To help each piece stay soft, clean, and wearable for longer, we recommend following the care guidance below.
General Care Tips
Dog clothing is often worn during walks, outings, rest time, and seasonal transitions, so regular gentle care can help keep each item looking its best.
We recommend:
- washing pet clothing before first wear if desired
- cleaning items regularly after outdoor use
- washing light-colored and dark-colored items separately
- avoiding harsh detergents or strong bleach
- air drying whenever possible to help preserve shape and fabric feel
Washing Instructions
For most pet clothing items, gentle washing is recommended.
Hand Washing
Hand washing is the safest option for many dog clothing styles, especially for:
- lightweight tops
- dresses
- knitwear
- hoodies
- seasonal pieces
- delicate trims or decorative details
Use:
- cold or lukewarm water
- mild detergent
- gentle pressure only
Do not scrub aggressively, twist, or wring the fabric too hard, as this may affect the shape and finish of the garment.
Machine Washing
If machine washing is needed, we recommend:
- using a gentle or delicate cycle
- washing in cold water
- placing the item in a laundry bag
- washing with similar soft fabrics only
This helps reduce friction, stretching, and wear during washing.
Drying Instructions
For best results, we recommend air drying flat or hanging to dry in a well-ventilated area.
Please avoid:
- high heat tumble drying
- direct prolonged heat exposure
- drying too close to heaters or radiators
High heat may cause shrinkage, warping, fading, or damage to trims and elastic areas.
Ironing and Heat
If needed, use only low heat and avoid direct ironing over printed, textured, elastic, or decorative areas.
For many pet clothing items, steaming lightly or smoothing by hand after washing is often enough.
Special Care by Product Type
T-Shirts and Tanks
These are usually the easiest to maintain. Gentle machine wash or hand wash with cold water is typically suitable.
Dresses
Because dresses may include softer fabrics, layered shapes, or decorative details, hand washing or delicate-cycle washing in a laundry bag is recommended.
Hoodies and Sweaters
Wash gently and reshape after cleaning. Knit or cozy fabrics may stretch or lose shape if exposed to excessive heat or rough washing.
Light Jackets and Vests
Spot cleaning for minor marks may help reduce unnecessary washing. For full cleaning, use gentle washing and air drying.
Onesies
Because these are often worn close to the body for comfort, regular gentle washing is recommended. Avoid strong detergent residues that may irritate the skin.
Holiday or Seasonal Styles
These may include more detailed finishes or occasion-specific fabrics. Wash carefully and store properly after use to help preserve their look for future wear.
Spot Cleaning
For small marks or light dirt, spot cleaning may be enough.
Use:
- a soft cloth
- mild detergent
- cool water
Gently dab the affected area instead of rubbing too hard.
After-Wear Care
After outdoor wear, we recommend checking the garment for:
- dirt
- moisture
- loose threads
- trapped pet hair
- minor stains
Keeping items clean and dry between wears can help maintain freshness and comfort.
Storage Tips
Store pet clothing in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and damp conditions.
For seasonal items, make sure the garment is fully clean and dry before storing it away.
Important Notes
Please always consider your dog’s comfort first. Before reusing any item, check that it remains:
- clean
- dry
- soft
- free from damage
- comfortable for normal movement
If a garment becomes stretched, damaged, or uncomfortable, it should no longer be used.
